Bookbinding

IMG_4154

Been on a four day hand bookbinding course run by Shepherds in London. Thought I would include a picture of one of my finished books. Really happy with the result, it’s even got a built in book mark! (I’m very nerdy I know!). Have five new books now, there’s something really satisfying about hand made stationery.

Have a look at the website if you want, I include the link below

Watercolours

I’m uploading some watercolours from a painting module at uni that I did, they’re based around scientific close-ups of nerve cells and veins. I tried to abstract what I saw so it could stand for art in it’s own right. Hope you enjoy!IMG_1055IMG_1056IMG_1057

Marian Claydon

Went to the Marian Claydon exhibition at the fashion and textiles museum in London. Little known gem of a Museum, it costs £9 entry and is absolutley tiny. Marian Claydon was a designer who shot to fame with her cool silk tye die prints in the 1960s and 70s, she died in 2015 so the exhibition was held in retrospect to celebrate her work. The silks were beautiful, artworks in their own rights and vibrant. The dresses were glamorous and recalled historical fashion and 1920s flapper dresses as well as being of their time and bohemian. I urge you to go and discover the museum for yourself!

Sleeping under the stars

Some more photos from A-level photography to upload, this time of Charlie. We hauled an old mattress into the woods and I made a paper crown for Charlie. Tried to make an ethereal shoot with a feeling of fantasy, like a little lost princess. The title I was given to work with was “bedroom” so I tried to cover a theme of “sleeping under the stars”. Our night-time dreams often inhabit fairytale realms, here I have tried to recreate them. Hope you enjoy!

Lady of the lake

Some more photography by me of my friend Amelia, got her to stand as a eerie lady of the lake in the river a couple of years ago. Poor girl was freezing in the October Autumn cold but I made a victoria sponge with strawberries to thank her. She’s dressed in my mother’s vintage clothing and crowned in flowers. Hope you enjoy!

Art

Just wanted to do a quick introduction to my artwork and sketches. As an art student at Newcastle University I specialise in dip ink drawings. I include some sketches of internal organs such as lungs and hearts and muscle tissue line drawings. My own interest in internal organs stems from a love of medical illustrations, particularly renaissance. I love the functionality coupled with the beauty of them. In my own work I try to abstract illustrations I see and compile them into one. I also love the idea of a microcosm in a macrocosm, of things relating to seemingly unrelated subjects. Blood spots on internal organs always look like galaxies to me, like a tiny world within a world.Nature always seems to repeat different patterns beautifully. Nerve endings morph into roots, the beginnings of our blood ties and identities. Anyway before I ramble any more here are some photos of my sketches, enjoy!IMG_1067IMG_1068IMG_1069IMG_1071IMG_1072IMG_1073IMG_1074IMG_1076IMG_1065IMG_1066
